The short answer
Costume transitions come back every October on TikTok: you film yourself in your everyday clothes, do one move that hides the change, and cut to the full costume. The move is the idea. A snap and spin, a jump, a hand over the lens, a doorway or a hair flip each hide the change in a different way.
Many costume videos use famous characters. These ideas stay generic, so the costume is easy to put together and the video stays yours. No costume at all? The Halloween Costume page does the snap and spin for you from one photo.
Five transition moves
| Move | What hides the change | Good costumes |
|---|---|---|
| Snap and spin | Your back to the camera mid-turn | Witch, vampire, fairy: anything that swirls |
| Jump cut | The top of the jump | Skeleton, pumpkin |
| Cover the lens | Your hand over the camera | Any costume, even a quick one |
| Through a doorway | The door frame as you pass | Vampire, witch |
| Hair flip | Your hair across your face | Black cat, fairy |
Snap and spin
The classic, and the one our AI video does. Wave, snap your fingers and start to turn. Cut while your back is to the camera, change, and finish the turn in the costume. A cape or a long skirt that flares out on the landing makes it.
Jump cut
Jump on the spot in your everyday clothes, and land in the costume. Film one jump in each outfit from the same spot and cut at the top of the jump. Short, bold costumes like a skeleton or a pumpkin read best mid-air.
Cover the lens
Walk up to the camera and put your hand over it. Change, cover the lens again, then pull your hand away in the costume. It’s the easiest to line up, so it’s a good first try.
Through a doorway
Walk toward a doorway in your everyday clothes and come out the other side in the costume. Cut as the door frame passes the lens. A long cape trailing behind you looks great here.
Hair flip
Flip your hair forward over your face, then back up in the costume. It suits costumes worn on your own hair, like black cat ears or a flower crown.
Generic costume ideas
The best transition costume looks nothing like what you wear every day. These are easy to read in a second, and none of them is a character:
- Witch: a tall pointed black hat on your own hair, a long black dress and a black cape. The most popular adult costume, and it suits everyone.
- Vampire: a tall-collared black cape, a dark waistcoat or a long dark dress.
- Skeleton: a black outfit printed with white bones.
- Pumpkin: a round orange tunic and a small green leaf hat.
- Black cat: cat ears on a headband, black clothes and a long tail.
- Fairy: a soft tulle dress, glittery wings and a flower crown.
Keep your face clear. A mask or heavy face paint makes the reveal less about you, and the before and after is funnier when it’s obviously the same person.
Filming tips

- Film vertical, from chest height, a few steps back, so you’re in view from head to toe.
- Keep the phone still between clips. A friend’s steady hand or a shelf both work.
- Mark your spot on the floor so you land in the same place in both clips.
- Make the before properly everyday: a knit top and jeans, a hoodie, whatever you wear at home.
- Land facing the camera and hold a pose. Hands on hips is the classic.
- If friends are around, ask them to cheer on the reveal. It makes the moment.
- Watch candles and jack-o’-lanterns near a long dress or cape.
How the AI version does the snap and spin
The AI version needs one photo of you, no costume and no second clip. It’s one continuous take from a friend’s phone at a Halloween house party: orange fairy lights, black paper bats on the wall, jack-o’-lanterns on a side table and friends in homemade costumes behind you.

You wave in your everyday clothes, snap your fingers, spin twice in a ribbon of glowing orange sparks and smoke, and land in a classic witch costume with your hands on your hips. Then a cape twirl while your friends cheer, and you hold the pose to the end. Only the clothes change: your face, hair and build stay the same.
It comes with the party’s sound: the chatter, the snap, the whoosh of the spin and the cheer at the reveal. There’s no music and no single trend song, so add any sound you like when you post.
One Standard video uses 45 credits. The smallest pack that makes one is $6.90 for 45 credits (1 video), a one-time buy whose credits never expire, and plans start at $19.90 a month for 270 credits. If a video fails, its credits come back.
Which one should you try?
- First time: cover the lens. It’s the easiest to line up.
- Want it to look magical: the snap and spin, with sparks over the cut.
- No costume, or no time: one photo on the Halloween Costume page.

よくある質問
What is the easiest costume transition?
Covering the lens. Put your hand over the camera in your everyday clothes, change, then pull your hand away in the costume. No spin to line up.
Which transition looks the most magical?
The snap and spin. The turn hides the change, and a burst of sparks or smoke over the cut makes it look like magic.
What costume works best for a transition?
Something that looks nothing like your everyday clothes. A classic witch is the most popular adult costume, and the hat and cape make the change obvious at a glance.
Can I use a famous character costume?
You can wear what you like, but our ideas and our AI video stay with generic costumes: witch, vampire, skeleton, pumpkin, black cat, fairy.
How do I keep the room from jumping between clips?
Don’t move the phone. Prop it up or have a friend hold it in the same spot, and stand on the same mark for both clips.
Can AI do the transition for me?
Yes. On the Halloween Costume page you add one photo and the AI does the snap and spin, from your everyday clothes into a witch costume, in one take.
