The meme began as a losers’ concert: the band was made of coaches who had all lost that weekend. The friendly version swaps the coaches for your group chat. Whoever’s team lost goes on lead, laughing like they’ve never been happier, and the friends who won take the backup mics.
Set up the line-up
- Lead: the friend whose team lost, or last place in the league.
- Sax: second-worst. The solo, eyes closed, is the face of someone who saw it coming.
- Keys: the friend who won, front and centre, enjoying it.
- Backup mics: the rest of the chat, shouting the hook.
- Post it the morning after the game, with the score in the caption.
| Loss | Caption idea |
|---|---|
| A Sunday loss | “Live from the desk after that fourth quarter” |
| Fantasy last place | “The league’s annual concert, featuring our last-place manager” |
| A lost bet | “Payment received, in song” |
| Pub quiz | “Our quiz team, performing their final answer” |
Team colours without the logo
Everyone plays in the clothes from their photo, so a team-colour hoodie or scarf in the photo carries into the video. Printed logos and names usually don’t survive: they come out as garbled lettering, and we ask the video model to leave logos out. A plain top in the right colours reads as the team without either problem.
Keep it among friends who are in on it. No photos of real coaches, players or other public figures, nobody under 18, and nobody who didn’t say yes.
Make it
On the Tiny Desk page, add the lead first, then up to four friends. The video is 18 seconds with the song on it, and one uses 90 credits, however many friends you add. Prices are on Pricing.

Perguntas
Can I put real coaches or players on the band?
Not on NowStarring. We only make videos of people who agreed to it, so no coaches, players or other public figures. Put your friends on the band instead.
Can the band wear my friend’s team jersey?
They play in what their photo shows. Team logos and lettering tend to come out garbled, and we leave logos out, so a photo in the team colours works better than one in a printed jersey.
Is this only for football?
No. Any loss works: a fantasy league, a pub quiz, a bracket, a bet, a group-chat poll.
How do I make it feel like a roast and not an insult?
Use a photo they would pick themselves, and pick friends who are in on it. The laugh close-up makes the lead the star, so it lands as a joke at a party, not a jab.
