The scene

You’re lying across your bed in a 90s bedroom, chatting on a corded phone, twirling the cord and blowing bubble gum. A silent figure in a black robe and a white mask is standing in the doorway behind you. The bubble pops, you go quiet, the lights flicker, and it’s right over your shoulder, both of you staring into the camera.

Where it started

It started in autumn 2025 as an AI photo trend: a 90s-style picture of someone on a corded phone in their bedroom with the masked killer from the Scream films behind them. It came back when Scream 7 came out in 2026, and video versions added the moment the figure appears, usually posted with Le Tigre’s Deceptacon.

Why people post it

Everyone watching sees the figure before you do. The fun is in the seconds you spend laughing on the phone, and the scare when it’s suddenly right behind you.

What the AI version looks like

The AI version puts you in the bedroom from one photo of your face, in cosy 90s loungewear: a cream cable-knit sweater, plaid pyjama trousers and thick socks. The masked figure is a generic one, with no knife and no film posters. The video is 10 seconds, vertical for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with the room sound and a sting on the scare, and no watermark.

Fragen

Is the mask the one from Scream?

No. The figure wears a plain white ghost mask and a black hooded robe, made for this trend. There are no film posters, titles or logos in the video.

Does the AI video come with the sound?

Yes. The sound is already in your video. If a platform mutes it, pick the Deceptacon sound from its library when you post.
